The Quinn's Cove Summer Solstice Messabout is held at Lon Well's property at the head of Fisherman's Slough, behind Caterpillar Island, downstream from Vancouver, Washington. There is free camping on Caterpillar Island, if the river isn't too high, and you can sleep in your vehicle on Lon's property. Bring mosquito repellent.

There is a good Department of Natural Resources launch ramp with dock near the lower (north) end of Fisherman's Slough. There is a launch ramp and parking at Fred's Marina, near the head of Multnomah Channel, about 7˝ miles from Quinn's Cove.

This year's Solstice Messabout is going to be something special. Andrew Linn describes it:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, mark your calendars and prepare excuses for any other ‘obligation’ you might have - we are throwing a BIG DO on June 20, 2015 - Summer Solstice - at Quinn's Cove.

“Our very best friend, companion, and all around great guy, Lon Wells, is going to wed his blushing bride, and we are going to Coot it UP for him.

“The theme will be Sea People. Every single person in attendance MUST be wearing something related to being a person of the water persuasion. It can be anything from the traditional uniform of a Polynesian pearl diver to a full-on US Navy Admiral in Dress Whites or anything in between.

NOTE: Anyone NOT wearing something suitably Sea People-ish will be issued an orange Coast Guard Type II PFD and made fun of after the ceremony.

“I, myself, will be officiating the wedding. I will be dressed as a Viking and am in the process of procuring some horns for my helmet.

“The ceremony will take place at 4pm. There will be a feast to follow - we are figuring out how to roast a lamb and a goat - and I mean spit roasted over a bed of coals. If anyone knows someone with a lamb or goat they don't want, please let me know.

“Coots, this will be something they sing songs about. If you miss it, you'll spend all eternity with the other angels pointing at you and snickering ‘He skipped out on THE WEDDING because his daughter was in labor - can you believe it?’”

Congratulations Lon and Teri!
